I researched for about a week and came across some great activities that would do the trick! These activities were similar to what I was looking for, but turned out even better because our little guy loves em.
First I started the activities with a tongs activity for his cross the midline development. If you are wondering why that would be important here is an article for understanding more about handwriting skills.
This simple color sorting was an easy self-esteem booster and I was able to build a solid practice for a correct grip onto the tongs or focus on his right hand. Below you can see he is rocking the grip a little better. We are trying to get three fingers on a pom-pom for his stop fingers. If you would like to read more on the pincer grip for tongs here is an article.
Next we practiced the ABAB pattern to build self-steem and then proceeded to the next AABB pattern challenge.
We also took many breaks with some gross motor activities (It really helps us progress in the activities). Instead of going out on the playground Little monkey made up this game by himself and it is a cross between bowling and baseball. I just added some post it notes for Letters we are working on.
Noted: You could probably use any free printable by doing a quick google search for number, color sorting, or preschool pattern printable. If you want to get the printable for these activities, then visit Jan McCleskey MA OTR at TPT. Thank you!
What is your favorite tongs activity or ideas?
I'll add more posts after I organize some photos and links :)
